[former] Welsh Presbyterian (Calvinistic Methodist) Chapel, Station Road, Weston Rhyn [also known as "The Lodge"] A congregation of Welsh Calvinistic Methodists was established here c. 1801 and met in the house of the Rev. Daniel Roberts. In 1811 they built a chapel which opened in July of that year. On Census Sunday 30 March 1851 there were 54 worshippers at their morning service and 86 at their evening one, plus 59 Sunday scholars in the afternoon. Sixty years after the oringinal chapel was built it was thought to be too small, out of repair and old fashioned. It was decided to build a new one. A plot of land contiguous to the old chapel (described as dis-used in 1877) and adjoining the schoolroom was bought and a new chapel built. The foundation stone on this chapel was laid on Thursday 23rd July 1871 to a design by W. H. Spaull of Oswestry and built by Messrs Morris & Chaplin of Oswestry. It was built of cefn stone, measured 40 ft by 27 ft and accommodated about 166 worshippers. It originally had a light spire of woodwork with flying buttresses, the vane on the top being 60 ft from the base, which was struck by lightning and destroyed sometime after 1972. The cost of the site and the building was about £800-£900. The chapel opened on Good Friday 31 March 1872. The chapel held its last service on 30 December 2018 & has now closed.
