[former] Congregational Chapel, Constitution Hill, Wellington This Congregational Chapel in Wellington was built in 1899-1900 at a cost of about £3000 for a congregation which was resurrected following the closure in 1883 of their former chapel in Tan Bank. A site was obtained for £400. The foundation stones were laid on Friday 1st September 1899 and the chapel opened on the 18th May 1900. The chapel was designed by Messrs Ingall & Son of Birmingham in the early gothic style, of red brick with Bath stone dressings, and built by E. H. Nicholas of Shrewsbury. It had capacity for about 250 worshippers. In 1920 this congregation was joined by the Baptists from King Street, and the chapel was then registered as a Union Free Church. This church closed on the 25th March 2018. In December 2018 the chapel seemed to be unaltered and unused. For views of the four foundation stones, click here and here and here and here.
