[former] "Ebenezer" Wesleyan Methodist Reformers Chapel, New Street, St. George's/Oakengates, Telford The foundation stone of this chapel was laid on Tuesday 20th August 1855. The building was described at the time as going to be plain & small, seating 230 worshippers. It was designed by Mr Davies & built by Mr J. Millington of Ketley at a cost of about £260. The work was superintended by Mr J. Peplow of Oakengates. A statement was read at the ceremony by the Revd. Jones of Hadley who said that the "Ebenezer Wesleyan Methodist Chapel Pain's Lane" [Pain's Lane was an alternative name for St. George's] was for the use of those Wesleyan Methodists who were either expelled from the Nabb society in 1852 because they could not subscribe to the doings of the Conference, or who left it in disgust in consequence of 21 local preachers being left out of the circuit plan because they would not disconnect themselves from the Snedshill society. Since 1852 they had worshipped in houses under great inconvenience, so resolved to erect their own chapel. The congregation later joined the United Methodist Free Church, in or after 1857. In 1891 the chapel was altered and renovated. The chapel was rebuilt c. 1920, closed in 1963 & was de-registered as a place of worship on 27th February 1964. The building was sold in 1965.
